Sisso

This is my spiderplant, its usually perky, but for the last couple months the leaves haven't been as firm and some leaves have some discolored spots. Some leaves are also brown at the tips. Any ideas?

Brown at the tips may indicate under watering. The discolored spots could indicate root root, so I would check for that too

How do I check for root rot and how do I fix it?

You will have to take the plant out of the pot. Usually root rot shows up as dark colored and slimy roots. If it is bad enough the plant will have a hard time recovering, but it would be in the early stages in this case. You should remove those roots and promote growth of the healthy ones. Does this pot have drainage?

It does have drainage, but a few weeks ago it was really humid, maybe the soil couldn't dry out enough.

Did you repot a couple of months ago? Soft brown tips is a sign of too much water. The pot looks a bit large compared to the base of the plants. This could be too much water in the excess soil that the plants can’t use up. Spider plants like a snug pot. Their thick roots hold a lot water. So, they can grow well in a smaller pot. Let the soil completely dry between waterings. The photo shows my plant in a small pot.
