My pothos plant looks like it’s dying! this plant has never had all green leaves at once, but lately more leaves are turning yellow and shriveled. I recently repotted it to a pot with drainage as the roots were rotting but since then the leaves have started yellowing. I also moved it to a location farther away from the window but it is a bigger brighter window. Water about once a week. I have photos of the before and after locations (the after is taken from the vantage point) as well as various photos of the plant in the past couple weeks as you can see the leaves turn browner over time.

Can I ask what that thing it’s sitting on is?

A heater but we don’t turn it on in the summer

Did you remove the rotting roots? It looks like you have a marble queen, so it will get more white with more sunlight. It sounds like overwatering is the problem. You definitely will want a pot with drainage, but you should stick your finger in the soil and make sure it isn’t damp before watering again.

I believe I did. I kept the core threeish roots. I do wait until it’s dry to water but maybe I should wait even more? It’s not an issue that it’s much farther from the light now?

I would keep it closer to the window for more light. This is what mine looked like when I had it a few feet away from a grow light

I have moved it outside to a spot with high humidity, bright indirect light, and a couple hours of direct light. In my experience, it is pretty resilient to both over and under watering as long as the roots are healthy.

Yes I think the sunlight may be the main issue tbh. I’ll try that and see how it goes

Indoor plants are finicky sometimes. Water is the first concern, second would be sunlight & humidity (is it getting enough), thirdly would be nutrients, fourth would be root bound, lastly soil. Most of the time the soil is not an issue unless it’s too dense of a mix. I’d say humidity and sunlight would be your concern here if it’s not a watering/root rot issue.

I’m a noob, so don’t listen to me. But my lovely Pothos went to crap after I repotted it per the instructions of actual experts. My idiot beginner advice is never mess with plant roots when you repot. Don’t disturb the pot shaped soil around your plant when repotting. Just set the pot shaped soil into a 1 inch bigger pot and shovel in the extra soil around it. This is the minimum disruption to the plant . Again, that’s my experience as a complete beginner, so it’s probably bad advice.

That’s good advice for healthy plants or one that’s not root bound or have root rot. This plant had root rot. So, cutting rotten roots is mandatory. The plant will stress from it.

Sure, I know very little about plants, but does it really matter if one cuts a few bad roots away? Don’t disturb the roots, and put the whole mass of bad and good roots into a new, expanded pot of soil, and nature will handle the rest. The impacted roots will no longer be impacted, and root problems will be handled by nature.
