My house plants are infected with fungus gnats . Iā€™ve tried for the last 6 weeks to get them under control. Iā€™ve done nematodes, Iā€™ve done insect pellets , 70% isopropyl alcohol at night and they are still here.. Iā€™m going to attempt to repot all 30 of my house plants does anyone have suggestions for the best way to go about repotting all of them in order to minimize shock and get the best results possibleā€¦ Iā€™m planning on doing a chunky soil mix, orchid, bark per light generic plant soil. When I repot them.., should I spray the roots with alcohol? Can I repot immediately? Should I re-water when I repot? Any step by step repotting directions for a mass re-pot would be appreciated.

    Donā€™t spray the roots with alcohol. Check for root rot while you have the roots exposed. Trim off any mushy roots. You can use diluted H2O2 on the roots to kill any other fungus. Use sticky traps for adults, bottom water and maybe continue to use mosquito bits tea when you water

    Personally, Iā€™d try to do them in groups of soil type. Succulents, ā€œregularā€ and like to stay moist

    Depot, dispose of used soil outside as it might have gnat eggs in it. Either use fresh pots or clean the pots (thoroughly. Wash off all soil, give pots some time in hot water that's as hot as the pot (and your hands) can take, then wipe the pots with a paper towel soaked in alcohol. Get as much old soil as possible off the roots, then repot with fresh soil (ideally do this a good distance away from your depotting area.) You can also spray the plant (roots and all) with neem oil if you want. When you put them back in place, add sticky traps. Improving air flow and drainage can also help, as can removing any fallen leaves, dead roots, or other decaying plant material. Fungus gnats are attracted to moist conditions, so place your traps near plants that need wetter soil.

    If you can find it mosquito dunks or BTI (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis) works great. Its also pretty cheap and lasts a long time. I keep a little chunk in my watering can at all times so that it infuses into the water, it pretty much eliminated my fungus gnat problem. You will still need sticky traps for the adults, but BTI is great for getting any eggs or larvae in the soil.
