I hope everyone is having a great day. Is it normal for my Monkey Mask leaves to curl up inside?

They do that when they arent getting enough water. The soil looks wet to me, and pretty dense, so I suspect root rot. It pry looks like it isn't getting enough water because the roots have rotted away, so they can't take up water anymore. I would take it out and inspect the roots. If there are still a few firm healthy ones you could try cleaning them up and repotting in well draining soil, in a pot only one or two inches bigger than the roots. If they r all rotted you can repot it in water or perlite or something. Even if there are a few roots left you could do this.

Funny sidenote: I just repotted two adansonii(monkey mask) cuttings into this same pot and one appears to have root rot. Its only two inches bigger than the old pot but apparently still too much🤦‍♀️. Hopefully I'll have time today to take it out and inspect it. Maybe this pot has a curse🤔😅

I know, I love the pot so hopefully the other cutting stays alive and well🤞

Monsteras need dry, chunky soil. I know this because they haaaaated my sphagnum moss i have all my pothos in 🙃 Im currently looking for a better soil myself. If anybody has a cheap solution, clue me in!

I just do half regular houseplant potting soil and half perlite. U could add orchid bark too.

I dont really *do* soil because ive always had bad experiences with it. Pests, mess, it just decides to stop working and becomes hydrophobic… yeah, i just buy nutrient fertilizer now. i DID find a soil-less monstera mix within my budget though!

I agree… I use 50/50 potting soil and perlite. She loves it and is growing like crazy. I also aerate the soil periodically by using a small pointed dowel to poke the soil, which prevent compaction a lot.

I’ve researched that this is beneficial for Monsteras, which is what’s currently in my monkey mask. I’ll repot it and add some perlite to the soil and see how that goes.

Ya miracle grow products usually aren't balanced right in some way. It pry just doesn't have nearly enough of the lava rock. But ya the perlite will help.

I used 1/2 standard Miracle Gro potting mix and 1/2 Succulent/Cactus mix for my very old monstera. She’s in a very large 18” wide pot that stays outside almost all year. This was the cheapest and my plant is happy.
