My avocado tree is 24 years old and over 22 feet tall. Can someone tell me what are these spots in the tree trunk? I donāt want it to die!

It appears to be lichen which isnāt harmful to the treeā¦but that is based simply what I can see in the photos. Can you scrape it off?
2 gillningarDo I treat it with something like neem oil spray? I have dogs and I donāt like to spray toxic chemicals in the yard.
0 gillningarI wouldnāt treat it or get rid of it at all. It is actually a beneficial part of the eco system. It helps protect the tree from extreme elements, it provides nesting and nutrient material for birds, and it actually beneficial in helping to clean the air.
4 gillningarOh ok! That is so awesome. My backyard is permissibly a jungle and itās full of life. Butterflies, woodpeckers, hummingbirds and honeybees are always around. I would not want to disturb anything but I was worried that due to the daily thunderstorms in Florida where I live, there might be something off in my garden. Thanks!
1 gillaI completely understand! Where I live in Tennessee we have the same situation. Definitely been wetter here than normal this time of year. Iāve been dealing with fungus gnats indoors and it is going to be the death of me. š¤Ŗ
1 gillaI know, those gnats are not my favorite either. I hope things balance out soon. I love the rain, but the soggy grass and the critters that invite themselves in not so much. I know it will get better, thanks for your help. Have an awesome day! šŖ“

With such an established tree, please contact a local arborist. Get a quote, or maybe more insight about your specific region and its trees. It would be a shame to misdiagnose such a lovely tree.
1 gillaI didnāt think about that! I will look into it! Thanks!

The previous house I rented had 2 huge (over 50 feet) pine trees that had been neglected for years. 2 months and a monsoon season later, both trees had to be removed. One was rotten in the core, and full of scorpions. Still, it was sad to see those trees go. The owner thought such large trees just took care of themselves!
0 gillningarOh goodness! The avocado tree has been producing lots of fruit every year and no trouble at all. This is the first time Iāve noticed the white and green patches ⦠it has rained a lot lately and I was working long shifts ⦠I will get an arborist to take a look at my tree.
