Hello everyone, I adopted this Philodendron Birken from a friend recently and it hasn’t had any growth since last year. Last week I went to repot it and discovered hundreds of little white bugs in the soil first picture!) so I cleaned the roots and have repotted it into new soil and hydroleca mix as it has been suffering from being overwatered. However since then I’ve had more leaves turn brown/mushy and it has grown mould very quickly! I’ve used all my usual tactics to try and get rid of the mould, and it’s only been watered once since repotting, the soil is a decent level of moisture and it’s in a decent spot with indirect light. I have no idea what’s wrong with it, and I’m not sure what to do next! And ideas?

hi! i’m not sure as to what’s wrong with it, but i can say that the little bugs were springtails! they were actually very beneficial and eat things like mold, fungus, etc.

if there were so many you noticed them, there’ll probably be a bunch left over! don’t worry too much, they populate like crazy

Okay, so you are taking the right step in the right direction 🥳 How to fix the problem: brown mushy leaves are caused by multiple things; lack of humidity can cause brown mushy leaves, and also because of the overwatering factor: mold is caused by lack of air circulation and overly moist soil. How to fix it: brown leaves - try getting a humidifier for the plant to help with humidity. Mold - start reducing the frequency of watering, allow the top inch of soil to dry out before giving your plant another drink. Hope this helps❤️‍🩹

I wonder if it needs more light. The bottom leaves aren’t coming in with variegation. More indirect light will also help dry the soil and prevent mold.

Thank you for the advice! I’ve not seen any growth since I’ve had it but I’ve moved it to a new position so hopefully new leaves will come soon!
