Repot asap, sterilize pot, don’t use any old soil, put the roots in hydrogen peroxide/water mix for 15 minutes, get new soil, make sure it’s well draining soil by adding orchid bark and perlite, then every time you water, use either mosquito bits and nematodes if you want to go organic or systemic granules if you want to go the scorched earth route
7 Me gustaYou could also repot into Pon or Leca so they don't come back. But follow the same sterilization Alyssa gave. Make sure you wrap up the soil and immediately toss it outside too
2 Me gustaYes to everything here. I’ll also mention bottom watering helps and I’ve used sand too. Put a layer of sand on the top of your soil any time gnats hatch the sand kills them by cutting them up
1 me gustaDoes that work if you have sand mixed into your soil too?🤔
0 Me gustaI don’t mix it in I layer a thin layer on top of the soil :)
0 Me gustaAlso be mindful of the potting mix. My coworker would buy Miracle Gro potting soil from the outdoor section of a big box store. Those soil bags tend to get rained on and encourage gnats and other pests to make them their home.
2 Me gustaawww i’m sorry they’re at risk of eviction! this happened to me, i am a hair stylist & we have a lot of gnats because of the hair that gets clogged in our drains. the gnats found their way to the plants i lovingly propped for the salon & even tho i explained i always watered with mosquito bits so they wouldn’t breed in the soil, the plants still got the boot 😭 if i were to do anything differently i would take them home for a couple weeks to ensure the soil was gnat-free & mention that that might be a good time to look for other gnat sources in the work place, then bring them back. & while they’re home with you, mosquito bits work absolute wonders. another tip might be to let the plants dry out a bit when they’re back at work before watering again!
1 me gustaMosquito bits + sticky traps worked wonders for me

Something else I’ll offer too is you can quarantine your plants by putting each one in a clear plastic bag (ie: ziplock or leaf garbage bag) and seal up well. Essentially creates a little greenhouse eniviro too (watering requirements will really decrease because the plants will hold on to moisture for longer). Add some sticky traps and monitor through the plastic for any new gnats. Quarantining this way is helpful because you can quarantine infected plants from non-infected plants as well as non-infected plants from becoming infected plus you can leave your plants in the same spot and not have to relocate them. You can quarantine either before repotting (stop all watering or use BTI tea until gnats are gone) or after repotting for a double dose of “just in case”. Gnats are a HUGE pain in the butt. Good luck!
