Help! My mother in law just got this guy and in a day he’s taken a turn. Any thoughts on what it could be? She got me the same one 2 days later so I’m nervous mine will turn too!

To me it looks like it may be sunburn. That would also explain why it happened so quickly.

How much light is it getting? If it’s in a window with direct light, it may have been too much too fast coming from the store. Ficus Els can handle a lot of light when properly acclimated. Variegated plants usually have higher light requirements.
0 LikesSupposedly it’s not near direct light. Assuming she hasn’t moved it, it’s probably 4-6 feet away from a front floor to ceiling window with curtains that always stay closed Is it possible it got sunburned in the car between store and home? Would that show up a few days later? Or only immediately? Anything else it could be?

Actually makes me think it’s not enough light with that distance from the window, but a bit surprised how quickly the spots appeared based on that. My Moonshine is on plant rack under strong glow lights and my Burgundy is outside on the patio and gets strong afternoon sun. It is behind a shade cloth though, because it would get fried during Texas summers. How is your plant doing so far. Any issues?
0 LikesMine is doing the same thing and also losing leaves. Not in direct sunlight. Water once a week if the soil is dry. Totally stumped! Are these plants sensitive to lime? We have well water so wondering…

I water my Burgundy with tap water with no issues. My tap water is really hard too.
