I have a bird of paradise given to me by a friend. The leaves are droopy and the leaf edges are always yellowing out! When I was a day 01 plant owner I made the mistake of cutting off those edges. What should I do for its healthy growth ? Help :(

First get a good hydrometer! They need to stay moist but not sopping. They also like to be misted. In the summer mine likes the east facing window of my dining room but in winter the light shifts and it doesn’t get enough light so he winters in the living room near a west facing window. Since July it has given me 4 new leaves and is pushing a 5th right now. When I brought it home it had a lot of crispy edges that I trimmed off and it has done just fine. I think finding the right light and water balance will see your plant perk up. They like filtered light as they are tropical rainforest plants that get light through the canopy so you might just be giving it more than it can handle if it is in a window with direct sunlight.
1 likeThanks for the wonderful advice Heather! Do you know what kind of nutritional mix I should be giving it ?
0 likesHonestly, I use the same plant food for all my indoor plants (with the exception of orchids) it works with my AeroGarden for seedling starts as well as general fertilization. I’m sure there are better products out there but this is what I had on hand and my plants are thriving so I’m not inclined to change what isn’t broken. 😉
