I’m growing basil. The leafs keep on dying and I’m losing one plant every few days. What is causing this.

Looks like powdery mildew or a type of mildew. Probably from lack of airflow or overwatering. I’d either use an organic fungicide that is food grade. Or a baking soda spray (1 tbls of baking soda, 1/2 tsp of dawn dish soap and 1 gallon of water )

Doesn’t look like mildew. Looks like excess water in the plants. Too much water can make the leaves look translucent or oil soaked. Overwatering can cause root rot very quickly in young plants. Rotting leaves feed fungus gnat larvae. I recommend letting the soil dry out a lot more before watering again.

I dug it up, do you think the roots look like they have root rot

Are the roots squishy to the touch or smell like rotting leaves?
