my stem tore halfway a while back. recently I noticed one side of the stem is turning yellow *below* where it ripped (but the side that didn’t break is still green and the leaf looks fine). Is this yellowing okay? Or should I be worrying?

Oh i remember this, you taped it right? I would keep an eye on it, it could spread through the whole petiole. I'd be poking it daily if it was me! Making sure it wasn't getting mushy. And spritz it with fungicide

awesome thank you! not getting mushy at all, just slightly yellowing but only on the side that it was ripped on. The leaf is still looking completely healthy, so is the rest of the stem. The rip was at the weird leafy sheath thing at the bottom of the stem

Oohhh so it sounds like the cataphyll tore and not the actual petiole?

ohh yes I think that’s what it is! But it’s also like the part connecting the leaf and stem to the rest of the plant. here’s a better photo

Oh yea, that definitely looks like just the cataphyll

Since it’s base broke I would say as long as it’s leaf is staying green it’ll probably be fine but you might want to get something to support the stem now.

thank you! per your suggestion I propped it up with a chopstick. entire stem & leaf are looking completely fine - just the one side of the base (where the rip is) is slightlyyyyy yellow but not THAT much - also yellow isn’t spreading!
