This is a last ditch effort but my prayer plant was doing well up… | Pests, diseases and problems | Comunità di Planta

This is a last ditch effort but my prayer plant was doing well up until 3ish weeks ago and has gradually gotten worse :(. My mom and I thought it could be a pest so I did try neem oil (I previously had troubles when I first got the plant from my mom and the neem oil took care of it). However this time the neem oil almost seemed to make it so much worse. Not sure if there's even anything I can do at this point, or even what the problem is. I water it when my water meter says it's dry but I'm worried that it's maybe somehow overwatered still, because that did happen to another plant of mine. Any advice would be appreciated, or if any of you think I should just cut my losses and toss him out, I can take it. Some extra info: this photo was taken Dec. 12th and it had been recently watered (I believe it was last Wednesday 12.3 or Thursday 12.4).

I kill Maranta, but what I learned is they don't like to go dry. They like to be more consistently moist, so it may be reacting to going dry. Mine always died, but hope yours makes it!

Can’t tell for sure, but in this pic and a previous pic, it looks as if it is sitting in a saucer of water. If so, that could cause overwatering. And if you want to give it one more try, provided the roots are healthy, you can cut it back to the soil. And it should put out new leaves.

I would take it out of the pot and check the roots at this point

I had a lemon lime and I swear the neem oil made it worse. I have a red one now that is thriving; they need A LOT of humidity but are very sensitive to overwatering. These guys are tough

Unfortunately I would just take the loss and not worry about reviving it,,it may just be still experiencing shock.. I look at my plant journey as they should bring me peace and joy when I look at them… when there aesthetics are off and mess with my anxiety I toss them.

I never throw out plants as long as there is some firm, green growth. As someone else already mentioned, you should verify that your root system is in good shape. Did your mom actually identify if it had pests or is this a guess? Your soil looks waterlogged and a little rough. I would take it out of the current soil, rinse off the roots really well and inspected for root rot. If all is well, then repot it in a clean pot with fresh soil.
