Hi there, does your pot have a drainage hole?
1 mi piaceHello! It does. It has 3 drainage holes
0 Mi piaceThat’s terrific! Is that in the decorative pot you have her in?
0 Mi piaceIt is!
0 Mi piaceIf the holes are in the inner pot and not the decorative pot, are you taking the inner pot out to water and watering at the sink so that the water runs out of the holes before putting it back? Zz plants are like a succulent - they store a lot of water in their stems and have chonky potato-like rhizomes under the soil that hold water too so they really don’t want to be sitting in wet soil ever. It may not have been thirsty when you brought it home. I water mine once every 3 to 4 weeks I think at the moment (I’ll check my plant history and can confirm).
1 mi piaceOk yep depending the zz, it’s once every 2-4 weeks. You really need to check the soil before watering too. Let it dry out. And be really careful with prodding into the soil because the rhizomes are in there and can get damaged. I’ve recently started using Sustee moisture meters because they just live in the pot and don’t need to be taken out until you have to refill the biodegradable inner material (every 6 to 9 months). I use them for my zz plants to avoid poking holes in their rhizomes with my metal moisture meter. Anyway, just a thought. 🌿🌿🌿
2 Mi piaceZZ plant = 1 watering every 3 to 4 weeks.
0 Mi piaceDoes it have drainage
0 Mi piaceI also killed most of a zz plant w/in like 2 weeks of taking it home…I overwatered it. it developed root rot fast. I am attempting to salvage 2 stalks and Ive learned they want very little water and dark-ish environment
2 Mi piaceSame here. But I was able to save most of the plant.

It’s usually a healthy sign for a plant to drop their lowest leaves as it grows.
0 Mi piaceI can tell by the pot that you got this from a big box store - I do the same exact thing so no judgement at all! The reason I mention it is because the soil they pot them in is often not well draining and already soggy or full of fungus gnats. I’d repot it into a nice chunky soil mix/succulent mix since it’s not doing well!
0 Mi piaceThese plants thrive on neglect… let the soil become dry before watering. If you repotted your plant it may be in shock. Less is more with this one. Zz plants don’t really like direct sun but they also can be sad if they don’t have enough sunlight. It might take a few trial and error spots to find its happy place. Give its leaves a wash every couple of months as well. Dust can prevent the uptake of light. Once you find its happy spot it will thrive being left with minimal attention
