Does anyone know what these white dots on my soil are. This is my peace lily and it is recovering right now after almost dying during the winter. They didn’t look like much but i picked a piece up with tweezers and they’re moving.

I had to zoom all the way in to see them! 😃 Looks like a massive amount of fungus gnats larvae. They are thriving in that wet soil. They live on plant roots leading to root rot and a slowly dying plant. That’s probably the reason your plant is almost dead. You could spend more time trying to eradicate them. I would throw it away. It will take a few weeks to get rid of them. The remaining plant may not survive anyway. Then, it will takes months to get the plant back to a healthy starter plant level. Too frustrating for me. But, might be worth it the plant has sentimental value.

yeah i was thinking of throwing it away, there’s no sentimental value and i was struggling to get more flowers from it before

Spray the soil with a mix of water rubbing alcohol (you can also add peroxide). Ive done this many times it hasn't harmed my plants and will kill the bugs, you may have to spray a few times but it shouldnt take weeks to get rid of them

Just in case it happens again, how long should it take?

I usually add a little more alcohol than water. If it is a bad infestation you can just pour it into the soil. It might take a week with spraying every day. You should check all of your plants regularly to catch an infestation early :)

If home remedies arent working for you. I recommend captain jacks super insecticidal soap, it works really well and doesnt have a strong odor the way neem oil does
