Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone knew a good way to get rid of fungus gnats? I already tried putting apple-cider-vinegar and dish soap in a cup and putting it next to the pot, that worked well but it didn’t quite get all of those pests… If anyone has a better solution please let me know!

Sprinkling cinnamon on top of the soil works wonders! That and those sticky traps (I got mine from Amazon)! Haven’t had a problem since.

I recently listened to an episode of the podcast On the Ledge where they talked about fungus gnats and the experts thoroughly recommend using BTI or nematodes to eliminate them. Other methods don’t really eliminate them, just force the gnats to go elsewhere. Things like sticky traps, diatomaceous earth, and cinnamon might work if there’s only a couple plants or it’s a small infestation, but isn’t really recommended for most hobbyists.

I did the nematodes. Easy just dilute and water and noticed huge improvement.

I use BTI drops. They’re a bacteria that kills the larvae in the soil. One or two drops per gallon of water and I use it every single time I water ever single one of my plants! I also use a plug-in insect trap to get any adult gnats (and other bugs too). The insect trap and drops I got on Amazon.

I add a drop or two of dish soap to my water when watering plants to keep bugs at bay but on a rare occasion if seeing bugs in a new addition to my collection, I used these granules that worked great!

Systemic stops the cycle… I had cinnamon, mosquito bits, diatomaceous earth alongside yellow sticky traps from Amazon, but this solved my problems. No dish soap though.

i really wouldn’t recommend this product, especially for fungus gnats, which aren’t even harmful, just annoying. systemic granules are HIGHLY toxic and can be incredibly dangerous to your health even with proper precautions

a mild hydrogen peroxide solution poured over the soil did the trick for me. it’s important to make sure you’re not overwatering your plants since fungus gnats thrive in moist soil. changing your plants to a chunkier, airy mix will help the soil dry out faster and prevent fungus gnat populations from growing and thriving in your pots

Good to know! I have only ever used a teaspoon sprinkled on top before watering so hopefully no harm done but I have not seen another bug. 😇
