Iām a new plant parent and Iāve been having trouble keeping this little one healthy. Heās suffered from sunburn, potential overwatering (I struggle determining proper portions) and turned pink from stress. I know I need to change the soil (it was a last ditch effort) but any tips would be amazing šš
I really love Espomaās Organic Cactus and Succulent Mix for my succulents. Iād also suggest bottom watering your plant if youāre an overwaterer and if you havenāt tried that yet. Itās really easy to do and thereās tutorials on the app here if you wanna learn how. A simple YouTube video would also suffice for showing how as well. The key isnāt so much how much water you give as much as it is how OFTEN you water it. I give my succulents about 9-10 days before I water them again, then about 12-15 days in the fall, then hardly at all in the winter unless theyāre still forming new growth. As for the sun stress and burn, never wipe the leaves of certain succulents as the natural sort of ādustā they seem to have on them is their natural form of sunscreen. If you did in fact accidentally wipe it off (which if you did, donāt feel bad. People do it all the time. The only succulent that really needs its leaves cleaned is jade plants) try to put it in an east or west window if you can find it. If you donāt know what I mean about that, please look up how to find north and south in your house and determine from there if you have any east/west windows.
1 Like If youāre really scared theyāre gonna die and plan to repot them, you might wanna separate them into 2 smaller pots. Reduce it to their roots if you can, and if the two plants are connected at the roots you can cut the roots in half to separate them. I know that might sound scary, but people do it. Separating them also might help keep you from overwatering them instead of risking overwatering because youāre trying to provide enough water for two plants in one pot. Bottom water them both, let their soil completely dry out, and again, only water them sparingly, about every 9-10 days in their growing season of the summer, then even less often in colder weather. I totally agree with Adrian about watering, Definitely do not use plantas alert, if itās been sooner than a week in the summer. I use the sun gro black bag for succulents and a lot of tropical plants and love it! in my experience with sempervivum they need a crap ton of light, but not direct sun. If itās turning pink I almost think thatās a good thing, it tells you that itās getting a sufficient amount of light. Itās called sun stress but itās not necessarily a bad thing. Itās more like a sun tan. However itās turns dark and crunchy thatās far too much sun. Some varieties are also not very heat tolerant so that can cause some issues.
3 Likes Most Sempervivum generally have cilia instead of farina, making them okay to touch (softly). This is not all of them though!
