So my baby here is doing good for the most part… she has new growth regularly. Every time a leaf turns yellow I prune it off. I’m seeing these weird spots on the leaves now though. Seems like egg sacks of some sorts? Any suggestions on what it is or how to safely get rid of it?

Those are scales, yucky pests! Isolate the plant from other plants super quick. Then check surrounding plants for them. You can remove them from healthy leaves with a qtip and alcohol or gentle tweezing and prune the rest of the leaves. They like to be on the stems too so be sure to check in every nook and cranny. You can also rinse the plant off but I think scales are harder to get off with a rinse vs thrips or mites, if you do rinse be sure to cover the soil. Then to treat for pests I use insecticidal soap spray, neem oil spray and systemic granules. You’ll want to do multiple treatments over the next few weeks/months.

By isolate… how far away from other plants are we talking? Cuz they’re basically all in one common room for the winter. 😔

Another room if possible. If you don’t have another window consider purchasing a grow light for quarantined plants. But if you don’t have many plants and they all have it then you can just treat them all.

Check for snails (sliver lines) or caterpillars. Snails are ninjas. The ones around my house come out like thieves in the night and hide by morning.

Yes, snails inside. I’ve brought home bugs like snails, caterpillars, millipedes in and under pots from nurseries. I take my plants out in warmer weather and bring in hitchhikers. The chances are small of having those bugs if the plants have been only inside all year long. Those marks looked chewed. So, I would look around for a traveler. I’ve seen a caterpillar ride into the house on my long haired dog! Creepy. 😬

I found a snail on the side of a pot the other day, it creeped me out!! I had my boyfriend take it off 😂 I had no idea that this could happen. I had the plant for about 2-3 weeks and got it from a grocery store
