White 👸🏻 philondendron help please! What could be causing a few of the leaves to turn brown? She’s pretty much thriving, popping out new leaves all the time, but I’m concerned about these leaves browning in big patches. I checked the bottom of the pot to see if I need to repot (nope), roots are OK. No insects or bugs. I’ve seen some of her older leaves turn brown before, one at a time. This is the first time a few of them have large brown patches. Appreciate any help or tips! 🪴 thank you!!

    It's only on the white spots isn't it? I'm thinking it's variegation burns and needs silica.

      Yep only on the white spots. I’ve never used silica on them. I’ll look into that, thank you!

      Highly recommend silica! My variegated plants never brown anymore!

    Hmmm, I'm not familiar with the use of silica but it sounds very interesting and useful. Just for your own education you can go to the website lovethatleaf.com and look for the article entitled something like the ultimate care guide for variegated indoor plants. It's quite interesting. It talks about the causes of variegation which ones are stable why the white tissues are more susceptible to Browning and so on.

    Yes I had/have the same thing on my Ficus Teneke. I almost threw her out .. until I was reading Reddit and came across Silica as a help. I just started my journey so hopefully it helps.

    Hello!! I got a white princess a few months ago, she has already gotten several new leaves since then. When I got her, she came in a really thick, dense moss (in a teeeeny tiny pot) with root bound roots. I’ve repotted her in basically straight orchid bark with a few other airy materials and it’s been going good until…. I started noticing the same thing on older leaves. I’m nervous if I don’t do something, it will spread :(!! If you’ve tried silica (and seen any difference in your princess’ health I would really appreciate feedback. (I’ve used foliage pro liquid plant food a couple times although it is still winter where I live the house is generally room temp and up + a grow light lives about ten inches above the plant itself) Sorry for so much background - I would appreciate any recommendations to help my baby get better ♡

      Aww congrats on your princess, they can be so pretty and its always exciting to see new leaves unfurling. I haven’t tried silica but will let you know how it goes and if it prevents browning on the leaves. 🍃
