I got this hoya Hindu Rope about a month ago, and I watered it a week or so after getting it to let it dry out. But when I watered it, it started showing signs of root rot, as the leaves started turning mushy. I repotted and gave it more gritty mix to let it dry out easier. I let it sit for a few days to get used to the new soil before I watered and now here we are a week later she still is hating me and leaves are turning yellow and falling off, but they're not mushy anymore. Please help! She's variegated and coated me $50 and I want her to THRIVE!!

First, see if you have any healthy enough branches to cut some props for back up as it does look like your plant is in poor shape. Second, your pot looks to big. I always error on the smaller side for my Hoya’s, anything 0.5-1” larger than its root ball vs the usual standard 1-2” larger. Third, variegated versions of any plant usually are even more finicky (not necessarily a rule though), so I would make sure my mix is extremely well draining and its getting lots of light. Good luck! As that’s an expensive plant to lose 😢

Thank you! for propagating can I just cut and put into water? or are they're nodes I need to look for!!

There are nodes and can be found at leaf junctions, You’ll want to remove the lower leaves from your cutting to make sure you’ve got enough nodes in the medium, but make sure you have a few healthy leaves left on your prop. I would let it callous over for a bit before putting it into your medium if choice. I’ve had success with water props, but seem to have quicker outcomes proping my Hoyas in sphagnum moss.

Be sure to give it sufficient bright indirect light or east or west direct sunlight. Yellowing leaves can come from too little light. Move it into a chunky soil mix with coco coir, larger pieces of perlite and orchid bark and no peat as shown in my photo (Hoya Paula). 🍀🪴
