What is it?? My Kalanchoe is starting to bloom for the first time. It is on the end of the left stem. However, I just noticed this pod thing along the same stem. It is well attached and firm. I have never seen anything like it and I’m worried some alien insect is going to emerge.

Hellooo congrats on the bloom! That pod-like growth on your Kalanchoe stem looks wild, but it’s probably not an alien incubator (though your plant’s dramatic flair is appreciated). Most likely, it’s just a harmless stem gall or callus — plants sometimes form these when healing from stress, injury, or hormonal shifts. Since it’s firm, green, and not spreading or leaking, it’s probably just your Kalanchoe doing weird plant things while blooming for the first time. If it turns mushy, discolored, or starts multiplying, snip it off with sterile scissors. Otherwise, let it be — your plant might just be showing off. Weirdly 😓😅

I think you are right on the gall. I do move this plant in and out of the house seasonally. I named her Buzz. I thought maybe a hornet was going to emerge. I’m planning to dissect it once it blooms or sooner if it causes problems.

You should prune her after the flower dies. It will come back full and bushy and have more flowers. You can root all you cutting too.

Thanks. I think I will. My other kalanchoe bloomed as well after I propagated at the end of summer.
