After searching for a couple weeks, I finally found a monstera burle marx flame. I bought it thinking it was completely healthy, but ever since I’ve brought it home, these black spots have been appearing on the leaves, what could be causing this and what would be the best solution? Any advice is appreciated!

Those black spots could be a number of things but my first suggestion would be to remove the soil from the plant and check for root rot or stem rot. Overwatering can cause fungal or bacterial issues that could be showing up as those black spots on top of root rot. If that is the case, I would switch out the soil for something more churchy and remove it from the self watering pot. Another thing to consider is the location of the plant and environment. Is the plant getting at least 1000 foot candles of light for 12 hours a day? Having enough light helps the plant have enough energy to work through all that water. Without enough light, the water sits longer and causes that rotting and bacterial or fungal issues in the soil.

I plan on repotting later today so I can check everything out. Honestly I didn’t want to repot it as soon as I brought it home so it could have time to acclimate to a new environment, didn’t want to send it into full shock. But now I know I need to so I can see if theirs any underlying issues. I currently have it sitting in an east facing window that gets lots of morning/afternoon sun and I plan on adding grow lights soon. Thank you for all the helpful advice!

One of my apps said bacterial infection. 🤷‍♀️ If it was me, I would cut off those leaves, repot it, get a good look at the roots, and then run a solution of one part hydrogen peroxide to three parts water through it until it drips out the bottom. And don't lose hope. I ordered this Montsera online years ago and it arrived with four leaves three of which were black. It was so bad they actually gave me my money back. But I was determined to keep alive. It made it.

After you used the peroxide/water solution, did you then run water through it, or did you just leave the peroxide in the soil? Do you know if doing that would help with any fungus a plant might have? TIA!

I just use the mix. I don’t run water through afterwards. Not sure if it works on fungus.

First of all your plant is gorgeous, so glad you were able to get it figured out and save your plant! I’m going to be repotting it when I get home from work today, so I’m hoping it’s nothing too serious. Thank you for the tips!
