Cactus turned black and got skinny. I donât even know what cactus it is, it was just given to me. Dr planta is saying it could be any number of things.

It needs more light probably. If the skinny portion isn't new growth, it also needs a bit more water.. like a touch more
1 gillaThe Iâve also been told overwatered.
1 gillaThat looks dark green on my screen, not black. Black indicats rot, which is usually overwatering. And generally that will start at the base area unless its from a wound or something
3 gillningarI think itâs under watered. Black and wrinkly with dry soil is under watered. Overwatered it would become yellow and have extremely wet soil.
0 gillningarThe black top and lighter green bottom suggest stress, inconsistent watering, and possible climate shock. Check for any signs of rot. Cacti donât need excessive watering â let the soil fully dry out between waterings. Once stable and growing again, you can fertilize lightly to support recover
0 gillningarOver watering and maybe not enough light :)
