Do you guys know what happened to my Umbrella Tree? My friends said these are just old leaves and it’s the cycle of its life. But i’m just worried if there’s something else. Any response is appreciated.

    that amount of leaf loss is probably due to a watering/lighting issue. i’d research its needs & make changes accordingly 😊

      I water based on Planta’s recommendation.. so maybe lighting issue?

      do you check the soil before watering? planta is great as a reminder but you should always check the soil every time.

      my variegated one is in a windowsill with bright indirect light & i make sure the soil is more than halfway dry before watering. non-variegated might not need as much light but you should fact check that. if it’s not getting as much light it won’t need as much water & that’s why checking its soil before every water is necessary, at least until you resolve the leaf drop issue & get the hang of the routine 🤓

      & it’s always a good idea to pop it out of the pot & check the roots. i know that always seems like a daunting task but it might save you time & grief to “get to the root of the problem” 😅

      I haven’t checked the roots yet, however it has been having new leaves, so i don’t think there’s a root problem, right? (I’m assuming if there is, there’s now way it will have new leaves). Pls correct me if i’m wrong

    It is not normal for this many leaves to drop. When it’s the natural life cycle of the leaf it will turn yellow and drop. These turning crispy and brown en masse is concerning. Like Plantasia said you should check your conditions. I’ve had mine for about 7 years. It loves bright light, the more the better but if you’re going from part shade to full sun, do it gradually. Mine currently sits in a big east facing window so it gets good direct morning sun and then bright indirect for ~6 hours. I’ve had it under a grow light and in south and west facing windows over the years. The good news is that whatever is happening your plant will endure if you figure out the issue. These are super hardy — one of my favorite plants for all plant-keeping levels. Check you roots, let it dry out before watering, and get it as much light as you can 😊

      So i think this is what happens before the leaf turned all brown and fall… do you know what might cause this?

      But they have been growing new leaves too. I was assuming if the roots rot it shouldnt be able to grow new leaves, right?
