Im newish to this but I think its mould - is the soil quite damp or do you water quite often? Also is it cool or humid where it is?

A couple of clues can be maybe are the windows steamed up or have a decent amount of condensation - you’ll need to water a bit less if it’s humid in the room cause the plant dries out more slowly. Just learning this lesson myself! Sometimes this fungus can come with the plant in the soil from where you bought it, just try not to overwater like you say and that helps prevent it. Some of the other suggestions in these comments sound really clever for getting rid too!

Happened to my money tree!. Probably not the expert way to do this but I made air holes in the soil to try to dry out the soil at the bottom that wasn’t getting air. Then I scraped off the top soil, covered it with a fresh layer of potting mix and the white stuff didn’t come back

this is actually a great solution. less water and more airflow is usually the answer to a mold problem. like Waspinator said, fungi like this are attracted to a moist environment and will grow much slower or die off completely if you dry things out :-)

Definitely some kind of mold or mycellium. Based on the fact that it's that far along with no damage to the cactus, it's most likely a species that's harmless to plants and just enjoying the soil conditions. Fungi usually like high moisture though, so you may have an overwatering issue
