I’ve noticed small black gnats the last 2 or 3 days, specifically around my Sage babies (haven’t directly seen them in any other pots). This is a fully indoor set up as I’ve just started learning how to grow herbs from seed this summer, so I’m not sure how the gnats got in or if they developed from overly wet soil. 😣 I tried the apple cider vinegar with a bit of dish soap that I read from another post in here. Wondering if this is the best approach for now or if I should try something else? For context these sage babies were planted from seed on July 9th, so they are doing well but still very young! So I want to handle with extra care 👍🏻 thank you!

My experience is there’s a couple of things you can do. First, you can insert house plants sticky stakes in the soil to trap them (see heretofore attached pic). Second, ensure soil has extra drainage because it prevents settling water or matted soil which attracts them. Also, those sticky stakes can alert you to how bad the problem is and whether or not your soil is infested with fungus gnats… which there are other remedies like mosquito bits (pic attached) you can set up like you have the vinegar because it really works if there is a serious problem. Otherwise there are harmless to plants but pesky to humans.🧐

Ok here is an "old school" thing that has gotten rid of my gnat problem. Get a plastic cup, put some old fruit in there like a banana, some tomato, honey dew or cantaloupe or something, then get plastic wrap and put it on top of the cup, hold it in place with a rubber band, then poke little holes with a toothpick into the plastic wrap and set it wherever the gnats are. When the cup is pretty full grab more plastic wrap and put it on top of the cup and make a mad dash out to the dumpster/garage. Repeat until all gone. A grocer told me thats how they do it. It works.
