My grandmother recently passed & I inherited her Chinese evergreen. I already had one she had gifted me years ago & decided to combine them. The 2 stalks I’ve circled in red are what I received & repotted recently. They don’t appear to be doing well while mine that I’ve had a while (tall stalk in center) still seems to be thriving. I repotted it probably about a month ago. Any tips or suggestions to keep it from dying? Or is this normal?

Hmmmm they look to be a bit overwatered, their root system might be overwhelmed by the large pot it’s sharing, I’d take it out of that pot and put it in a smaller one by itself for a bit to get used to the conditions

Thank you, Alyssa! I’ll try that

I agree. I have one and i think you need to put the small one in a pot on its own. I think it’s overwhelmed in the big pot and needs something smaller.

I had a variegated plant that looked similar, but it’s a different species. I tried repotting after buying and it just didn’t not want anything to do with it 😅🤣 I moved it to a water propagation vase and it has at least survived! It also gave me confidence being able to see the root systems and add liquid fertilizer when needed. Maybe try that if the repotting doesn’t work? I attached my actual plant type from the app so you can see!

Oh thank you! Yes I just took a guess at the species so I could certainly be wrong. Just strange that mine is thriving & the new ones are struggling so much. Thanks for the suggestion

That is super weird for sure! But plants deal with shock too! So maybe it just needs a little longer? Idk girl, plants are like real relationships 🤣 I’m sure you’ll find what is best for that plant so it makes it!

😂😂 they are hard work. I’m very new to the whole keeping them alive thing. I used to kill everyone I got someway or another. I’m going to play around with this one

This is definitely a Chinese evergreen, specifically aglaonema silver bay. It looks overwatered. I don’t have one yet, so I’m not one hundred percent sure on the care, but I’ve heard that they like a chunky soil and to only be watered when all the soil is dry.

Thank you! I’ve been following Planta’s watering schedule but could be using too much water each time. This is super helpful

Overwatering isn’t the amount of water, it’s the frequency of the watering, so I just use Planta as a reminder to check if the soil is dry. I usually use a wooden skewer. I leave it in for a minute, and if it comes out dry, I water.
