Hi! I’ve got a calathea Leopardina, and it’s been growing well apart from some brown dry spots, aswell as white marks. There are also some stringy brown spots? It’s about a foot from a sky light, so thinking it could be getting too much light? Alternatively, maybe I need to repot as it’s nearing the edges in the pot and I haven’t repotted since purchasing at a supermarket, so soil quality may be a bit bad? New leaves coming thru still tho so that’s good Please let me know if possible! :)) PS if anyone has any propagation tips then plz let me know!

what kind of water do you use? what is the humidity like? these guys are sensitive to chemicals and such in tap, and will get crispy tips and spots from too dry of an environment :)

Using bottled distilled water atm and spray every 2 days or so, perhaps I need a humidifier?

no prob! i would look into getting a humidifier - theres a whole debate in the plant community about whether or not misting does anything. one side says it only peaks the humidity for a very short amount of time, which can stress the plant and can hurt more than help, and the other says it helps, with little or no downsides. you could try searching for humidifier/misting sometime to see more of the arguments 🌱 i am someone who doesnt like misting and has a humidifier, but i think depending on your set up and environment, what you say works best for you is best! good luck!!

Calatheas propagate by division, so if you want another one, you have to divide the plant when you repot it. Just make sure the pots you put them into are appropriately sized for the amount of roots of each division.
