My anthurium looks like it has a white mold on top of the dirt in patches, which is weird because I water her very infrequently and often wait a week after the care reminder tells me to water her. I think it might be because of how thick the soil is, but I have the same type of soil in my pothos plants pot and the soils completely covered by the leaves, but it doesn’t have any mold. I have them in a south facing window right below an AC vent.

I don’t think that’s mold. If you are watering with regular tap water, that is more than likely some of the minerals from the water left over after the top dries out a bit. If the plant is healthy and growing, I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

Oh thanks! If it isn’t mold and just mineral buildup then I should probably start top watering it for a bit.

So glad you posted this because I’ve had the exact same concern with my plants! Relieved to know it’s nothing to worry about

Seconding hard water deposits. Bottom watering won’t fix it because chances are, it’s built up in your soil. Best thing to do is run water through the soil from top down a few times and hope you rinse out the deposits. :)
