Hey y’all, I just got this half dead bonsai from Lowe’s and it’s been awhile since I’ve had one. What soil would be recommend and is their any important tips I should know. The soil is bone dry so I was going to go ahead and water if you think that would be okay to do till I get my soil.

If you can identify species, that'd help (bonsai is a training method, not a species. Yours looks like either a fukien tea tree or a ficus benjamina, but i can't tell from that photo.) Definitely water the poor thing. Remove any dead leaves that fall off and leave the ones that are still on the tree for now. Make sure the pot has good drainage, and give it regular watering, bright indirect light, and time to recover. If it's a ficus, it'll appreciate humidity
