Help! What’s wrong with my alocasia? I water as indicated from Planta: whenever the top layer is dry. I put it 3 feet from window in part shade part sun ( put it here only for photo as my desk is quite messy) I appreciate all help and tips. Thank you!

I recommended using a moisture meter! When it reaches a number on “low” give the plant some water :) or use a chop stick to see how wet the soil is . Sometimes the top layer dries quickly so it end ups getting too much water . Also , you could try removing the bad leaves and repotting by the good parts of the plant into a chunkier soil mix with more drainage , as well as bottom watering it. Hope this helps!

ok first of all, alocasia are triiiickyy so don’t take it too personally lol — something is up with this plant for sure. alocasia doesn’t like to dry out but this soil looks *wet* — there is definitely not enough drainage even with the clay pot i would use a clean blade to remove the bad leaves (or the worst of them of they’re all affected) and get it **gentlyyyy** out of this soil. their roots are fussy so do you best to very carefully remove all the old soil. it might help to let it dry a bit more than what’s here in these photos before attempting this mine (a jacklyn) is doing really well in a nursery pot, in a 1:1 ratio of peat and perlite, plus a handful of fine orchid bark (i think you could even skip the bark) it maintains a really good moisture level. i have mine under a full spectrum grow light for 12 hours a day, which is admittedly more light than it truly needs but the leaves have been really big 😮‍💨

Does this pot have drainage holes? Alocasia polly are definitely tough to figure out and not always forgiving. Make sure you’re using a tropical soil mix, and maybe add some perlite for extra drainage.

Thank you for the question! It has the drainage hole but I’m using the all purpose soil mix. I’ll need to fix up the soil.
