General post here but Iām hoping to help some people out! Iām noticing a lot of people having issues with plants asking for help and when zooming in on the pictures I see a lot of times thereās possible spider mites so I want to offer some advice! Alocasias (Pollyās especially) are massive spider mite magnets, but spider mites donāt always leave webbing on the leaves, sometimes theyāre just clusters of white dots or even white dots spread around on the leaves. They will kill your leaves and eventually the plant if not taken care of. If you suspect spider mites shower the leaves, spray with a mix of water and Castile soap every few days for a couple of weeks. (I measure with my heart but Google can give you actual measurements). The Castile sap has the right balance of fats to kill the spider mites and itās very gentle on leaves if you use the unscented versions. I treat my plant room once every week or two in order to stop them because my alocasias keep attracting them. I also prefer a continuous spray bottle because it has a much finer mist thatās easier to get every crevice with. Little side note: For more delicate plants like orchids my advice might not be suitable. Common and more rare house plants are what I have and use this treatment on. Monsteras, trandscantias, stromanthe trio stars, pepperomias, philos, pothos, jade tree, begonias, etc etc.
