I recently got this alocasia dragon scale and when I brought it home… | Pests, diseases and problems | Planta-Community

I recently got this alocasia dragon scale and when I brought it home the soil was super wet. After the first night (I don’t like to repot my new plants unless there’s obvious issues) I noticed some yellowing on the tips so I waited until 4 days later I noticed even more yellowing. So after checking the super wet soil I decided to give it some better draining soil. So I did but now the leafs are curling and the tip looks white. Any advice or suggestions would be very appreciated! Happy planting 🪴

When you repotted, how healthy were your roots? Because this looks like under watered/ root rot. I put them in the same category as root rot results in under watering since there is very little to no healthy root system to take it the water. Also, this pots does look really big for the size of the plant unless you had a really big root ball. Yellowing tip can be once again due to the above or drying out.

Definitely check the roots, I’ve been noticing ALOT that starter plants from wholesalers/bigger suppliers (even 2”-3” one’s) that the seedling packs they use, the fabric doesn’t deteriorate and gets entangled in the root system. That creates a whole bunch of issues… my experience is I see it’s looking great, then starts to turn yellow a week ish after I bring it home ( almost like I’m overwatering however I normally mist for the first week especially if the soils dry). I normally take it to the sink and clean everything off the roots but then you’ll have to keep humidity up and plenty of light to have a strong comeback👍🏼

I honestly didn’t clean roots as I didn’t want to give the plant to much “shock” so I just gave it some “dryer soil” as I just assumed it was due to the super wet soil it was in. But I will be doing this tonight. Thank you for the tips as I am just started off and have much to learn😀 🪴

Alocasias are looking dramatic but they are resilient! I’ve lost every single roots on some and they still bounced back.

They are looking good! Then it was thirsty 😂 You can give it well draining soil, a drink and it will settle.

I was scared to water it after the repot since the other soil I bought it in was super soaked 😅but I will water now

I have one of these, and I tend to give it water relatively frequently, but lightly. I.e. it’s never soaked, but it has water. I haven’t repotted it from when I purchased it, but I’ve had it for over a year. This last year was rough, and I neglected it For a bit, I got the yellow on the leaves, but now new leaves are coming in looking great so, it can be dramatic, but it is pretty robust and is going back to happy.
