I have been told about 2 planters of succulents in an office setting. They have had fresh soil in the past 2 months and unfortunately had not been in good light. They were just moved to very good light now and have been doing good. Unfortunately one has had lost 2 of the succulents (see picture). They also.appear to have produced small flying gnats and possible ant like pests. The ant like pests come up from the soil when the planter is lightly shaken. I need help on this one. Been reading alot of tips. But would like to tell the office people what to do.

    I’d recommend putting each plant into their own little nursery pots (a lot of nurseries will give them away for free if you ask for some). Especially with rescuing mixed variety planters, it’ll be a lot easier to have them all in their own pots so they can each dry out as much as they need to without risk of overwatering another plant that needs more time between waterings, gives each plant more room to grow their roots without crowding the other plants, and you can either line them up throughout the office or stick them back into the planter and fill the spaces between all the little pots with the current gravel. Especially if you’re seeing a sign of pests, it might’ve experienced some overwatering; something that could easily happen again if the planter doesn’t have drainage holes, proper soil, or great access to sunlight. I’ve rescued a lot of plants from mixed planters this way into a box or tray full of little plants for my friends; perhaps in your case, your coworkers. If you don’t have a local nursery around, look up “2-in nursery pots” and you’ll probably find a few online to choose from. Make sure they have drainage holes and are plastic with multiple holes or terra cotta with at least one hole. I swear by Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent Mix for all my succulents. Avoid Miracle Grow’s soil for this, even their cactus mix. It’s just not well-draining enough. Last thing you’ll need is some hydrogen peroxide and some rooting powder. I get Bonide’s Rooting Hormone Powder from Lowe’s, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, or my local nurseries. Inspect each plant’s root system, trim off any distressed, damaged, or rotted roots (spray the roots with hydrogen peroxide if there’s any rot to kill any lingering bacteria that could spread), pat the roots dry after letting the peroxide spray sit on them for a few minutes, then cover the roots in rooting powder. You can dip them it it or sprinkle it on. After that, you just pot them up in some fresh cactus mix and their own pot, and you can water them after or wait a day or two to let the rooting powder help them recover from the repotting. The rooting powder will also help each plant grow new roots faster if they had a weak or rotted root system. Hope this helps 😊
