So I got this about a month ago, I’m still sort of new to this type but there’s a lot of conflicting info I feel like. So, could someone tell me what I’m doing wrong? It’s in 65 degrees (I’m in New England so it’s a little chilly inside rn). I have it in bright indirect light. I do have a grow light I could put it under but I don’t know if that would burn it. I water it once the soil is probably like 70% dry. It’s in about 60% humidity. It looks like these spots are from overwatering but the leaves are still more on the crispy side than anything else. I think it may just be cold? Anything will help. Will the leaves recover? Is it okay to prune? Thanks in advance!

    It could still be overwatered. Peps like to be totally dry between waterings. They enjoy a succulent soil also.

    Okay, I will start waiting for it to fully dry. See the soil is also conflicting online too. I’ll put some perlite in it. Thanks!

    Is it possible the leaves have gotten wet during watering or being misted or near a humidifier? If so, that could very possibly be the cause, cause these guys do not enjoy getting their leaves wet. If not, my other best guess would be edema, which is typically caused by a change in humidity or temperature when the soil is wet, which could certainly happen if the temperature has dropped in your neck of the woods. I’ve found watermelon peperomias in particular are at a higher risk of edema. If that’s the case, don’t remove the affected leaves until you stop seeing it spread onto new leaves/the cause of the problem is solved. I agree with Phil on making sure it’s not getting overwatered too. To help if it’s edema, try to keep it away from drafty windowsills, doors, or air vents, or anywhere where the temperature can fluctuate on them. Another thing that can cause edema is if the soil isn’t well-draining enough, coupled with a change in humidity and temperature. I’ve learned the hard way that the watermelon peperomia is more prone to shock from repotting, so if you think the soil might be the culprit, remove some of it, but when you start seeing some of the roots exposed, stop removing any more of the soil. Cover any exposed roots with Bonide’s Rooting Hormone Powder to reduce the risk of shock and help it grow new roots quickly if it does go through shock, then replace the soil you removed with a better-draining mix. I swear by Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent mix for my peperomias, but as you live in the UK, if you can’t find that, I’d go with an epiphytic or cactus mix that you trust. (And please avoid Miracle Grow brand soil for this one. Not sure if it’s even available in the UK, but if it is, it’ll only worsen the problems with your pep rn. Hope this helps! 😊
