Hi folks! I come baring yet another question 😅 My tiny thai constellation is FINALLY pushing out a new leaf, which I’m super excited about! However, the dull yellow-ish leaf is what I’m wondering about.. its not browning but its been this unsavory light color for a very long time now. Should I just chop it?
if the plant doesn't want it, it'll kill the leaf. the plant still wants it for whatever reason so i wouldn't chop. i wait for leaves to fully discolor and begin crisping to remove them. paleness can indicate a lot of things, low light (probably not the issue here), nutrient deficiency, and underwatering all cause it. when was last fert if ever, how are you determining when to water?
2 likes Ahhh that makes sense! I figured it would be a good idea to ask before chopping and I’m glad i did. Not sure what fert is? Fertilizer I think is what you’re referring to and if thats the case then I don’t think ive ever fertilized any of my plant babies 😅 I often water whenever I see that the middle-bottom of the soil doesn’t appear damp
0 likes yes fert is fertilizer. because the oldest leaf is the one that's yellowing and nothing else, i'm suspecting nutrient deficiency. plants will kill older leaves to make new ones when they're in nutrient-poor conditions. do also note though that monsteras are not drought tolerant, they're tropicals and need consistent moisture. i determine based on the top two inches-ish, i just stick my finger in there and ask myself "will this be completely dry by tomorrow afternoon?" and if the answer is yes, that's when i water. i've always done that and i've not once had root rot with my thai con, it grows like a weed
