I’ve been trouble shooting this peperomia plant since I bought it 6 months ago. Kept losing leaves and fading/yellowing. I guess I didn’t troubleshoot that well because I fully rinsed all the roots and found a mesh bag around the root ball! I can’t believe it took me this long to find it- I feel so silly but I guess it’s a lesson to me. I cut off all of the root rot, repotted, and hoping it can be saved. 🙏🏻

Hey there 👋 just wanted to give you the heads up that peperomia caperatas are prone to shock from repotting, especially if it’s already been stressed from a root cage and recent root rot. I’d recommend soaking the remaining root ball in hydrogen peroxide for 20-30 minutes, then putting Bonide’s Rooting Hormone Powder on the roots before repotting it in fresh soil. Make sure it’s a very well-draining mix, as peperomias are epiphytes and need extremely well-draining soil to survive in soil. I swear by Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent Mix, but any non Miracle Brand Cactus or Epiphytic Mix should work just fine. I’d avoid Miracle Grow’s soil for this plant, even their cactus mix, as it just isn’t well-draining enough, especially for a peperomia. The hydrogen peroxide will kill any lingering bacteria from the root rot and the rooting powder will help reduce the risk of shock from the repotting process and help the plant regrow its root system faster. Hope this helps 😊
