I’ve had this Ruby Red Rubber plant for about a year now and there… | Pests, diseases and problems | Planta-fællesskab

I’ve had this Ruby Red Rubber plant for about a year now and there has been no new growth on her. If anything, most of her leaves have fallen off even though she’s always been in an east facing window, misted, fertilized and bottom watered along with systemic pesticide protection. She only has 3 leaves left but it seems like another one is going this same way. So, I cleaned off her old roots and put her in new easy draining soil (potting soil with perlite) as a last ditch effort. I’m praying to God it revives her. Can you give me your ideas on what may be going on? I’m all out of them. **side note, this is named after my childhood dog and she just got put down a couple weeks ago to add insult to injury 😢

Have you tried putting it in a south facing window? Or maybe a west facing? What you’ve done sounds like what I would’ve done in the process to eliminate what it could be. I would stop misting it. I personally have a mister and I add a small pinch of miracle grow granules to the water. Then I spray everything about once twice a week. You might want to give that a try if you’re missing. But I wouldn’t miss more than that. Then see how that goes and go from there.

I live in an apartment so we only have east facing windows and two south facing - I put it in the room with the most windows (east and south) so I’m hoping it helps because I’m lost! 😞 thank you for the info!

I agree with the person below. A grow light would be perfect. I do have a few grow lights around my apartment. All of our windows are south facing in mine. What I wouldn’t give for a good east facing window.

Hi there, firstly, I’m so sorry to hear about your dog. I can’t imagine the grief you are feeling right now but my heart truly goes out to you. Well done on repotting with perlite. You want to give this baby a substrate with a good amount of aeration throughout. My general rule is at least 20% perlite. My suggestion now would be pop this baby under a grow light. This way you don’t need to worry about window placement. One thing that I like to do that doesn’t ruin my house decor is to get a floor lamp and buy an LED grow light (the light bulb style) and insert it into the floor lamp. You can then have your ficus under that. I do 12 hours a day for mine. Or you can also mount to a wall if you’re able to. Here’s a pic of a corner of my living room. You can see the floor lamp is perched up on a plant stand as I have a strong grow bulb in there. My ficus burgundy is also under a strong bulb but I mounted the light to my shelves (that ficus is a very slow grower, it’s about 4 or 5 years old now and it started out about the size of yours). In terms of which grow lights to buy, it depends on how much you want to spend and where you are in the world . But if you’re starting out go for something that is easy to buy. In the states, I see a lot of people buy Sansi grow lights. I don’t own any of those but I have bought grow bulbs from ikea that aren’t too expensive (18W from memory). I also have a few cheapies from Amazon and eBay (30-35W). My favourite bulbs are more expensive - they are the Grow Gang Pianta bulbs (bought on Amazon). And I also have one Soltech bulb which is much more pricey but was my Xmas present to myself :) Make sure the wattage on your bulb does not exceed the wattage of your lamp. So if you have a lamp already, check how much it allows (maximum) and then buy a bulb that is less than that. Hope that makes sense! Best of luck with the rehab of your baby. You got this! 🌿🌿🌿

My rubber plant loves it when I let it live outside for a while. It has to go in a shady area with little to no direct sun. Just don't forget that it's out there!

I agree the the comments above. Not enough light is likely the issue. Focus trees can handle a decent I amount of light when properly acclimated. My burgundy is outside on a patio and gets afternoon sun. Have to pull down the shade cloth so it doesn’t get fried during Texas summers. My Moonshine is under strong grow lights for 13hrs per day on my plant shelf. The top leaves are all from this winter after I brought it inside. Definitely recommend an overhead light so it grows upright. I would stop misting too. Ficus pants grow fine in ambient conditions.

What beauties! Alright - I do have a grow light that I use in corners and during the winter so I guess it’s going under that today! 🙂‍↕️
