My fittonia (nerve plant) is starting to get all dry around some of its bottom leaves. Her soil is still moist and I water her well, so I don’t think it’s an underwatering issue and she hasn’t drooped at all since I got her. She’s also always been in a well-sunlit room but out of direct sun, so I doubt it’s scorching. I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing wrong but I want to make sure she’s getting what she needs. It’s minor now, but I want to try to figure it out before it becomes a more major issue. I am considering that it might be low humidity (even though I do have a humidifier running in the room) or it might be something to do with water quality, and I have also been concerned I may be OVERwatering her (I don’t think that should lead to leaves drying out though?), but does anyone have any other ideas or advice?

    It looks a bit leggy and needs more light so it could be redirecting energy for new growth. I had a few of my leaves look like that and it’s blooming now after I moved it to the window

      It was mostly like that when I got it but yeah you do definitely have a point considering it’s only the lower leaves that are drying up completely. I’ll move her a little closer to the window and see what happens!

      Since you just got her it might also be adjusting to the new environment especially if it went from hardly any light to much more light. If your window mostly gets the morning sun, a fittonia can handle being much closer to the window. I have mine on an east facing windowsill since I like her leaves to be more pink

    Do you have it in direct sunlight? Nerve plants like a bright area but no direct sun. Once I removed mine from any direct sunlight it has not had any crispy leaves.

    Never mind just reread your post. They are very finicky plants. It has taken me over a year to finally figure out what mine likes. I keep it by a window but no direct sun and water her according to plantas schedule. Have you used any fertilizer?

      She’s still relatively new, like I bought her pretty recently, so I didn’t want to risk adding any fertilizer outside of the little tiny pellets that came in my potting soil. I did swap out her soil to a better draining one soon after I got her because she’s set up to be wick watered and I was a little worried because her original soil was so soggy, and the new soil I put in came with these little fertilizer pellet balls. That’s about it in terms of fertilizer and I can’t really take all of them out of the soil to control it though

      How are you watering. Thru the soil or directly into the water reservoir? Because when using a wick, you water the reservoir not the soil.

      Directly into the reservoir for the wick. I have the pot sitting on top of some rocks and I pour water into the bottom, so that my plant isn’t sitting in the water but the wick is in the water

    That’s the only thing I can think of is maybe a little bit of fertilizer burn. Even though they are finicky they are also very resilient as long as you keep your soil moist. Miss a day of watering and your plant will let you know you forgot. 😂
