Can anyone help me with my peperomia? When I got her a few months back she was so full and perky, but for a long time now she has been soft and droopy. No pests, no leaf browning or yellowing, simply just sad and floppy. I am wondering if she has been drying out too quickly because of the pot material? (I absolutely adore the pot tho lol 🍑) it is very porous and my thinking is that I need to water her more than I have been… the bottom of the soil is dry. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated!

Are there drainage holes? What kind of soil is it in?

Yes there is a drainage hole and it seems to be a decently chunky soil mix

Hmm could be maybe just a light issue, how often have you been watering?

It is in an east facing window and gets great morning light the first half of the day. My monstera adasonii right next to it is in the same exact soil and lighting and has been thriving (different plant I know). I have typically been watering whenever the Planta schedule tells me, but I always check with a wooden skewer first. The soil seems to be drying out really fast though, the skewer had no soil on it when I pulled it out just now

Okay that’s good, yeah it might be in too hydrophobic of soil or might need a pot up if the root ball is large enough and taking up most of the soil space. Which would make sense it dries out quickly, I’d repot up a size, check the roots just in case for rot, and put it in some new good chunky mix, that would help with you not having to water so often if it just needs a size up

Definitely agree with Alyssa here. I’ve had good luck with Espoma’s soil, and recently repotted 3 of my peperomias in their Organic All-Purpose mix. Avoid brands like Miracle Grow that hold moisture for too long. Another popular brand is FoxFarm’s Ocean Forest All-Purpose Soil.

Mine gets like this when it needs water. Definitely water more frequently! If she doesn’t improve in 24 hours after watering - worry about the soil.
