Hi everyone! I purchased this Petite Knock Out rose and just noticed these small bugs all over the plant. What are they? And how do I remove them? Are they harmful to the plant? Also, I’m new to gardening, does the reddish color on the leaves signify new growth? Thanks in advance!

Those are definitely aphids. You can just power wash them off.

I can’t see them well if they are aphids, but yes, give your plant a bath (tilt the plant to get leaves, don’t overwater it) and get as many bugs off as you can. Then get it thoroughly a few times a day if you can and remove any remaining bugs with q tips and 70% rubbing alcohol, until you don’t see any more for a while. You can keep rinsing the leaves too if that helps.

Find some ladybugs and put them on the rose. They'll clear aphids out really well for you. Praying mantises are also effective if you can find one. And the reddish leaves are indeed a new growth thing; i have varieties that do it a lot more.

Just had these for the first time. I quarantined the plant in my bathroom shower and sprayed every day (soil covered) because no matter what you’ll miss some. They’re great at hiding. Spray daily until you don’t see any more for 2-4 days.
