Does anyone have any ideas about why my monsteras leaves are turning yellow? Now it has a big leaf slowly turning yellow and now brown in the center. I’ve been careful not to over or under water but he doesn’t look the happiest. My best guess would to probably be repot him but wanted soy see if there were any other potential issues.

Onion peels soaked in water for about 24hrs, then pour the water into the soil to assist with yellow or browning leaves.

It could be root rot. Check the roots and the base of the stem and look for black roots, mold, or weird squishy spots. The roots and base stem of the plant would also smell kinda rotten

I’d say overwatering from the top. You should try to repot and bottom water less frequently

I think this may be root rot also, what kind of soil is it in and how often are you watering?

Not sure about the soil since I bought it with the same soil and haven’t repotted. I’m assuming regular potting soil. I let the top soil layer dry out before I water him again. I think he just needs a repot anyway since I have been seeing some roots at the bottom of the drainage holes, but nothing protruding out yet.

The soil it’s currently in is probably too dense, definitely repot into something more chunky. If you see any mushy or dark roots cut them off and spray with 1:1 hydrogen peroxide and water mixture.

Is it wise to propagate him for now after cutting back on the root rot?

That is most likely root rot. Monstera like to have all their soil dry out before watering. Then soak the soil till water runs out the drainage holes. I use a chopstick or knitting needle to check the soil to the bottom of the pot to see if it is still wet. Use hydrogen peroxide 3% when you repot to spray on the roots to clean up and treat for any root rot. Repot in a chunky aroid soil mix. There are several different kinds on Amazon that are good. Molly’s aroid mix is really good- just shake and mix the bag before you use it. Keep the pot at the size of the root ball- if you have to down pot, do it. Monstera like to be root bound when they are inside. Good luck!!
