Help! Am I overwatering my thyme seedlings? A couple of my thyme seedlings are getting brown and bendy stems just after sprouting. I have a grow light just overhead, a mini fan circulating air regularly, and have been watering only from the bottom drip tray every time that the water in it disappears (I have been assuming the plant is drinking it up). Two of my seedlings appear quite well but I have noticed little brown spots on one and bendy stems on that and one other. Please help! Also, when should I first fertilize as well as transfer these plants and how do I transfer them? Thank you!

The soil is holding too much water and holding it too long. It’s rotting the seedlings. Get seedling starter soil. It’s typically five prices with lots of perlite and organic matter that’s vermiculite to allow for excellent drainage s as bd and allows fine roots to easily grow. Individual seed pots are better than full tray of soil. The individual starter pots have more surface area to allow quicker drying of the soil around the seedlings. Individual pots are easier to repot because the roots are not tangled with neighboring plants. Use a heat mat and a grow light. Fertilize when the second or third set of leaves emerge. I recommend looking for YouTube videos and Google tutorials on growing plants from seeds. There are specific videos and tutorials for every phase of the process including making your own seedling soil and planting.
