Looks like this plant is outside. What’s your climate like? Is it hot?cold? Is there a significant change from day to night? Dry? Humid?

yes i have her outside on my apartment balcony we’re in alabama in zone 20-25 if that helps give more of an idea its hot and humid and usually no significant change from day to night, and all my windows are east facing bc apartment so i wanted to do outdoor plants to make sure they got enough sun

LMFAO i’ve never killed a plant before so i was hoping i could keep that streak a little longer but my family tells me that everyone kills one plant eventually

Hello! If I’m not missing anything, it looks like your you don’t have any drainage in your current pot. My guess is your plant may be battling against root rot due to not having proper drainage in between watering. I apologize if I mis read.

yes ma’am, this is one of my two plants without drainage because that’s what my grandma gave me and i have no money to spare to repot them right now (upcoming college grad!!!) i knew no drainage is bad but i was hoping it wasn’t going to be a horrible issue because it gets so hot where we live and the soil dries out faster

Mu understanding is Banana plants like full sun, well drained yet moist soil, and high humidity. Make sure you aren't over watering and that the pot has drainage. You can use a humidity tray if your area is dry right now, and give her lots of sun ☀️

It’s not a banana plant. It’s a cast iron plant, aspidistra elatior. See the picture. You have to stop watering it about 4 weeks to kill it or you can burn it in the sun to speed the process. It can thrive in in very low light and even the darkest shade. 😁 It really is hard to kill, hence the name cast iron plant. They live for decades. I tried removing a 40 years old mass of them. They always popped back up. I just moved and left them. 😄 Yours might still have a chance if the roots are still alive. Check for living roots. Cut off the dead parts. You might need fresh soil. Water when the soil is almost completely dry. Move to a low light area out of direct sunlight. Northern locations are good. Wait to see if it revives. 🪴🍀🍀🍀

🤣. It happens. I rename all my plants. Only the care instructions are important. This variety was very popular in grandma’s and great grandma’s days. I’m glad it’s recovering. Still cut the deadwood. I recommend using the dead pot next to it since the plant in it is already dead in the ceramic pot. It looks like it has drainage holes. Just thoroughly clean the ceramic pot and rinse with hydrogen peroxide to disinfect. Fertilize when it’s transplanted. Also, this is a good plant for dorms where the window lighting may not be ideal. Just don’t let it get so dry again.

how would you recommend cutting off the dead parts? like the leaves are brown but their stems are mostly green

Cut off everything to 1 inch above the soil to let the stem dry down without dirt getting into the cut. New leaves grow directly from the soil and not off the old stems just like the recent growth.

I looked at all of your plants. They look fine. They all like full sun are relatively low maintenance. The green oxalis, Delilac, goes through phases of dormancy. It can look bad sometimes, go dormant, then, revive like a champion. I’ve have all these plants except the viola. My purple oxalis is one the oldest at about 15 years if I remember correctly. The green oxalis is the youngest at almost 1 year.

i’m glad you said that because when i google it the oxalis’ look way different than mine, i have a few flowers but it’s 99% green leaves and they’re not the same kind of texture that it looks like in photos, they’re thinner. also omg your plant is GORGEOUS!!!! i love the purple it looks like butterflies!

Oxalis Triangularis are called false shamrock. The leaves are huge compared to the small leaves shamrock. The green one at the bottom of the photo is in a 6” pot. My purple is dense with little plants. It is in an 8 inch ceramic pot and is happy as a clam. I just add a 1 inch layer of cow manure on top of the soil each spring for organic nutrients plus fertilize about once a month. It’s too difficult to change the soil.
