Hello, I posted this plant earlier wondering what it was. It’s starting to recover a bit already and I’ve noticed this discolouration on the leaves. Does anyone know what causes this and whether it’s permanent? It’s a philodendron but I’m not sure specifically what kind. Thank you!

Silver sword philodendron. Maybe some physical bruising or the leaves are holding to much water from overwatering? It’s hard to tell from the pic alone

Yes someone said a silver sword earlier. Okay, if it is either of those, are the marks permanent or are they likely to go?

The marks on the affected leaves will likely stay. New growth would be okay as long as the lighting and water conditions are good

This randomly happens to some of my plants after I water sometimes and it’s been harmless so far. It’s likely extra water in the leaves because they took up water too fast. If this is the case it should go away within a few days. I would only worry if you see what look like water filled blisters. Did you water recently? I’ll also add, that agree it’s kinda hard to tell with the picture, but that is what my gut is telling me since the soil looks pretty saturated.

Yes I watered it yesterday because when I bought it, it was completely drooping and definitely underwatered. Thank you for your answer!

If it was really sad from dehydration and you gave it a good soak, then it could be the excess water in the leaves. I’m curious if it looks different now? I’m wondering about the bruising, too, knowing you just brought it home. Like how was it packaged, etc.

This is how it’s looking now. Much much healthier but marks are still there. The shop I bought it from did leave them right by the doors too so maybe it was cold there as well? In terms of packing it was just as it is really, crammed together with other ones like it.

It looks lovely and healthy. It’s hard to know with all the possibilities. So many different things cause similar problems in plant care! My silver sword had problems, so I chopped it back to a few stems and now I have baby leaves that are so cute. Life finds a way!
