Check for pests like thrips. It’s likely fungal based on the brown and black leaves if no pests are found. A common fungus that causes blooms and buds to turn brown is botrytis blight. It’s found a lot on roses and rose of Sharon shrubs. Treat repeatedly with a commercial fungicide. Wear gloves while cutting off the ugly parts. Bag and properly dispose of the cuttings to avoid spreading the spores. Disinfect hands and tools. Heavy rains and overwatering can trigger mold and fungus to spread especially when the leaves and soil don’t get a chance to dry out. 🪴🍀
