What’s going on with my mini roses? 😰 Recently I noticed the plant had been getting yellow leaves on it for the past few weeks. Today I looked at it properly and saw all these little spider-like bugs and webs on the leaves! There are also some gnats crawling around the plant pot. Are these spider mites? How should I get rid of them? Will a soil change help? I also have neem oil but I’m not sure if that’ll mess up the rose blooms. Please help, I’m horrified at how many little white bugs I see crawling on it!

Those are spider mites. Mites spread a fine stocking like web around the tender leaves and stems. Isolate the plant to prevent spreading the infestation. They easily spread by hand. Disinfect your hands and tools. Use neem oil or insecticidal soap. đŸȘŽđŸ€

I definitely moved the other plants away, around two feet from this plant. I’m planning on washing it outside, then repotting, and spraying down with neem and a Castile soap + water solution. Hopefully this solves the problem!

Ended up treating it as I said, no neem oil though, and the leaves look a little burnt. All I used was Castile soap and water. Hopefully the plant will be able to bounce back

The fungus gnats usually thrive in continuously moist soil. Use Mosquito Bits or BMC Lift liquid to kill the larvae. Yellow sticky traps can catch the adults.

What’s the best way to use mosquito bits?

Follow the instructions on the package. BMC Lift is the liquid equivalent. It might be easier to use. Both products contain beneficial bacteria that kills the larvae in the soil, breaking the lifecycle.

For now, I’ve put perlite on the top of the soil, but I’ll get mosquito bits when I can. Just worried about the leaves looking a little burnt right now 😔

Spider mites chew the leaves. Both mites and excess watering can turn the leaves yellow. It takes time to recover. Check and treat for mites every week for at least a month.
