Is this sunburn or underwatering? or maybe a bit of both?

i follow wild fern on instagram & youtube & she recently talked about her variegated raffie & said that she gets random browning too! specifically on the light parts. she can’t figure out what the issue is & suspects it’s just a thing with these cultivars.
1 likei know wild fern! ok thanks, yeah i figured the variegated parts just might be sensitive 🤷🏻♀️

Any plants with white on their leaves will eventually go brown due to lack of Chlorophyll which they need for photosynthesis.
2 likesIt’s normal for highly variegated leaves to die off quicker. Adding silica can help postpone it. I like to sprinkle diatomaceous earth on the soil surface to combat pests and it adds silica when you water. Or there are specific silica fertilizers. Balanced fertilizing will also help your plant produce leaves that aren’t fully variegated or “half moons” they might look cool but they aren’t ideal/beneficial to the overall health of the plant.
2 likescool i didn’t know about adding silica, thanks!
