Any recommendations for fixing the leaves?
I’ve been through the calathea tantrums a few times. Let the soil almost dry out before watering (I recommend a moisture meter) it has helped me tremendously. If the leaves no longer move with the light during the day, and just lay flat and never move, cut it off. No direct sunlight. Bright indirect light only. FILTERED WATER ONLY! calatheas are very finicky with chemicals in the water.

Thanks! I will try to let it dry out. Does this mean a self watering pot is a bad idea for it? I just repotted yesterday to keep soil moisture 😅
0 Mi piaceI’ve never used one so I’m not sure lol. I was overwatering my calatheas at first unknowingly because I was flowing a watering schedule which now I know is a big no no. I ordered a moisture meter from Amazon for like $15 and now I know when the soil is actually dry near the bottom and that’s when you water. Give them a thorough drink until water flows out of the drainage holes. Let it drain until no more water comes out and then you’re good to go till the next watering.

Hi, Roseopicta is a trickier calathea because imo they need more light than the other varieties (like the peacock for example.) They are great communicators though and speak in colors to help you figure out what it wants. See how the older leaf is really pink? I’m guessing that color is why you bought the plant. Over time, if you don’t give it the light it wants, it turns more into that gray color. The plant will also further respond to the lack of light by folding its leaves down to create satellites in hopes of capturing more sunlight. Also note that the crispy is at the tips, but it didn’t just crisp…see that darker line that kind of outlines the crispy and separates it from the healthy leaf? That is a water line. At some point, the plant was wet there and then it dried. The only way for it to be wet there is if you sprayed water OR the plant sweat from too much water around the roots and gravity pulled the sweat to the tip of the leaves. If it was humidity related, your leaves wouldn’t unfurl. I would start by fixing the light, which should fix your watering. And if you get more plants and give it more plant friends, you naturally fix your humidity (because plants give off humidity in groups). ✌️☺️ Hope this helps

Thank you so much! I never thought it communicates with the colors. I will play around the light and water :)

it’s one of the more vocal varieties with the pink color! If you give it intense bright light, it turns into this pretty fuchsia. 😍 can’t wait for your next update 😍
