I have had issues with both my stromanthe and heart leaf philodendron ever since I’ve had them and at this point I don’t know much more of what I can do. They get humidity from my humidifier I run every day, I water my stromanthe with only distilled water, and use appropriate soil. They also get plenty of sun light and receive fertilizer every couple of weeks. My philodendron has been dropping leaves as well. They both have drainage and I don’t over water. Does anyone have any tips on what I can do, or what may be the issue? Thank you bunches!

    Misting everyday is a small touch of constant moisture or no? And it sounds like you do all the right things is this a tropical plant?.

      I use my humidifier since I’ve heard it’s more effective than misting.

      With how the back of the leaves look I’m assuming it’s a tropical plant 🌱.. So maybe it’s getting plenty of water but not enough time to at least dry out as well. I have some tropical plants outside here in Texas and the heat gives them issues but once it cools down and things settle that’s when I spray them down and they get right back to standing up I haven’t bought in into the humidifier yet though have one. Once I see the struggles I may change things up.. As of now my plants are all outdoors getting 50/50 shade, sun and water.

    I suspect either too much sun or a watering issue. Are these photos taken in the plants' home location? Because if that window is sunny enough to keep a succulent happy, it's probably way too much light for prayer plants and philodendron which grow under forest canopies and need bright indirect light.

      I used to have them under grow lights but just put them in this new location today to see if it would make a difference.

      Got it, it's possible the grow lights are too strong as well. If these were my plants I'd want to inspect the roots. Are the plants still in their original nursery pots or have you repotted them?

    My heart leaf philodendron receives indirect eastern sunlight and seems to be doing well. When I had it closer to the eastern window, it received too much light and the leaves burned. My stromanthe receives light from a bright grow light and very little to no ‘real’ sunlight. I don’t use a humidifier so I get some crispy brown tips on the stromanthe, but it looks like yours has yellowing leaves which is probably not a humidity issue. Have you checked your plant roots in both plants? I fertilize monthly withs very weak amount of fertilizer. I use tap water. Any soil pests?

      I fertilize with a diluted fertilizer twice a month, usually. At least for the summer. And I found that mine doesn’t do well with tap water. I have had issues with fungus gnats for a long time and have been using all kinds of means to try to get rid of them. Recently I repotted my stromanthe in new soil because of it with some granules. None of my plants are outdoors. I have a lot of sunlight in my room but the corner I do have grow lights. I may go head and move them both back.

      I have found that my grow lights aren’t as strong as they were but I don’t know the exact watts.

    I don’t have the premium version of this app but I thought the premium version had a light meter. I have two stromanthe plants and the one that’s doing well is getting stronger light, so maybe your plant needs a little bit more light or longer duration or get it closer to the light etc. I used beneficial nematodes or mosquitoe dunks to get rid of the gnats. The larvae are in the soil and might be doing damage to both your plants. I probably should use distilled water and a humidifier for my stromanthe to reduce the brown tips.

      I’ve tried the mosquitoes dunks but I don’t think my stromanthe liked that. Have never thought of using nematodes. Do you have any recommendations? Like the ones you use etc.

    Don’t be hard on yourself the S. TrioStar is finicky especially about humidity. Finding its sweet spot isn’t easy but worth it. Yours is a good looking plant. I was on You Tube and someone was naming the Trio in their top ten plants to stay away from because “they are difficult” but I disagree. Do you check your soil before watering? A good practice is to check your roots before transplanting them into new pots. Do you aerate the soil in between waterings? All plants benefit from aerating. Possible solutions; Your heart leaf will do best skipping a watering rather than watering too much. The yellow leaves could be from too much water. And keep your Trio near a humidifier. My Stromanthe is throwing a fit because our humidity had dropped for a few days by 20% and I am attempting to acclimate them to lower humidity. Lastly, remember the Triostar is a Calathea, they love humidity but don’t like getting their leaves wet. Do not mist them. Misting can cause problems like bacterial infections or leaf softening on plants that like dry leaves. And misting really doesn’t help. Humidifiers or pebble trays is what they need and purified water works best. I use reverse osmosis water. I would check their roots but you said you recently transplanted them, right? Maybe they are experiencing shock? Keep an eye on them or check roots right away, your call. But you might want to wait so you don’t put them into more stress and shock.
