Hello everyone I bought my first Monstera 3 days ago and roots had already outgrown the pot so repotted it with all purpose soil and it is not in good condition. There are black spots and leaves are curling. Please help me save it.

I just recently had this same issue! I switched the soil to a chunkier mix (I think mine is technically for orchids) and added perlite. Now my monstera is sprouting again and looking way healthier! They need good drainage or they’ll get root rot. I’d definitely change out the soil and see if that helps!

0 J'aimeCould be some sort of fungal issue due to overwatered roots. Very common if you got it from a big box store. I’d repot it again and this time use a very chunky soil mix. You can do 1/3 regular potting soil, 1/3 perlite, and 1/3 orchid bark. Make sure the planter you use has good drainage and is no more than 1-2 inches bigger than the rootball of the plant or it will get overwatered. When you repot, check for any mushy roots. If you have any, trim the mushy roots off with clean scissors, then spray the roots with 3% hydrogen peroxide (make sure it’s truly diluted to 3% on the label) before repotting into your new chunky soil mix and appropriately sized planter. Dont water until the soil is 75% dry and check the soil moisture using something like a chopstick before watering (Tanner the Planter has good youtube videos about this method). Good luck!
